Ian Pannkuk: Young Dem of the Week
Each week, IDYD will spotlight an outstanding Idaho Young Dem. Our mission is to highlight the hard work of Young Dems around the state, and share their stories. Want to nominate someone for Young Dem of the Week? Click here.
Our Young Dem of the Week for the week of January 14 is Ian Pannkuk. Ian is 28 years old and lives in North Idaho.
IDYD: What made you want to get involved in politics? What was your first political experience like?
Ian: I wanted to do something to make change happen. My first experience being involved in politics was working for IDP as the Field Organizer for District 5 (Latah and Benewah) which was an interesting and intense experience.
IDYD: Who is your greatest political inspiration? Why?
Ian: Political inspirations are hard to come by. I don’t think we should be as attached to making politicians out to be celebrities.
IDYD: What words of wisdom would you share with young people around the state?
Ian: Go the extra mile. 1 more hour of your time can go a long way to helping, and people really notice when you put in the energy.
IDYD: What issues are you most passionate about?
Ian: The reason I got involved was that I care deeply about almost every issue. Climate change, Immigrant’s rights, LGBT issues, police violence, it’s hard to say anything without leaving things out.
IDYD: Politically, what would you like to see happen in Idaho this year?
Ian: I’d like to see some of the senators we worked hard to put into office make brave moves, and I hope that our public discourse can focus on real issues that are being voted on in our state senate.
IDYD: It’s still early, but do you have anyone you’d like to run for President in 2020?
Ian: I think Jay Inslee, Nina Turner, or another progressive should run.
Thank you, Ian, for all your hard work! To nominate somebody for Young Dem of the Week, click here.
